Multi Room Bluetooth Systems

When a volume attenuator is used in these Bluetooth in-ceiling speaker systems, it means that one or more speakers in the setup are connected to the attenuator after being wired from the amplifier. Any speakers that are connected to the attenuator can be adjusted in volume separately to the speakers coming from just the main output on the amplifier. This gives you the ability to install one or more speakers in a separate room, such as an ensuite bathroom, and adjust the volume separately from the rest of the system.

The other way that multi-room Bluetooth audio is achieved is using speaker switches. They work in a very similar way to attenuators - connected from the main output of an amplifier as a middle-man between the speaker(s) and amp. Any speakers connected to the switch can be turned on and off as required, which is perfect for two-room setups where you may only want to stream audio in one room at a time.

Due to the nature of Bluetooth streaming, your smart device will need to be located fairly close to the amplifier with a Bluetooth receiver built-in. You will find that the audio will start to cut out if your device is too far away from the amplifier, which is why Bluetooth speaker systems are usually limited to single rooms. Two-room setups can be achieved using the switches and attenuators mentioned above, as long as your smartphone or tablet is in close proximity to the amplifier.

Installing Ceiling Speakers

Despite these systems being ‘wireless’ in terms of audio streaming, they will all need to be connected either to an amplifier or directly to the mains using cables.

The amplifiers in each system serve as the main control module that powers the system and provides additional functions such as volume control, EQ adjustment, and even more inputs like AUX or optical to connect your TV.

By having an in-wall amplifier instead of active Bluetooth ceiling speakers, you have an easier way to control the system and turn it on or off as required. All cables are fully concealed in wall and ceiling voids, resulting in a stylish system that doesn’t stand out too much in the room that it is installed in.

The Bluetooth in-ceiling systems with wall amplifiers will usually also provide other means of audio playback, such as USB/Micro SD MP3 players or 3.5mm AUX inputs. By having these additional input options, you can use a wide variety of devices with the systems, even if your device doesn’t feature wireless Bluetooth functionality.
